I am currently a student at the University of Western Australia, in my second year of the Master’s of Marine Biology program. Working with the Wernberg & Filbee-Dexter Lab, I am researching the effect of the reef-seagrass ecotone and species physiology on the biodiversity of invertebrates and fish in temperate seagrass meadows. Focusing on two locations in Marmion Marine Park and Jurien Bay Marine Park, we have successfully conducted fieldwork and laboratory analysis to collect and identify the species present within at three distances from the boundary. The goal is to provide insight into the effects of the reef-seagrass habitat boundary, contrasting plant morphologies, epiphyte loading and spatial factors on local biodiversity, which are important to ensure informed future conservation, restoration and biodiversity assessment projects.
